Badakhshan is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan and is one of the northeastern provinces of the country. The center of Badakhshan is Fayzabad. Badakhshan province shares borders with Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Panjshir and Takhar provinces, as well as China and Tajikistan. Badakhshan has an area of 44059 square kilometers and a population of 1112415 people. Badakhshan has 27 districts which include Arghanj Khwa, Argo, Baharak, Darayim, Fayzabad, Ishkashim, Jurm, Khash, Khwahan, Kishim, Kohistan, Kuf Ab, Keran wa Menjan, Maimay, Nusay, Raghistan, Shahri Buzurg, Sheghnan, Shekay, Shuhada, Tagab, Tishkan, Wakhan, Warduj, Yaftali Sufla, Yamgan, Yawan and Zebak. Badakhshan residents speak in in Dari language.
