Description
Herat province is one of the football-rich provinces of Afghanistan. In fact, Herat is the second football center of Afghanistan after Kabul. Herat is the only province that has a regular football and futsal leagues, and all its matches are organized in a regular league format. Having a standard and regular stadium was an urgent need of this city. Fortunately, in 2016, Herat Stadium's artificial grass was completed and opened by the former goverment.
In the opening ceremony of this stadium, Mohammad Yusuf Kargar, technical deputy of Afghanistan Football Federation, Alireza Aghazadeh, secretary general of this federation, Dr. Asif Rahimi, governor of Herat province, Kyumarth Dehghanpour, teacher of Asian Football Confederation, Abdul Karim Rahmani, president of Herat province football federation, local authorities and people participated. At the end of this ceremony, the two teams of Tofan Harirud and Miwand Atlan faced each other, this game ended with a score of 4 to 1 in favor of Tofan Harirud. Aslo we should mention that Herat Stadium is 70 years old and has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
Herat Stadium's artificial grass was installed at a cost of nearly one million dollars by FIFA's goal development programs, which used all the criteria and standards of the day. This stadium is surrounded by Najo trees, which have brought a special and unique beauty to this stadium. The work of the floodlights of this stadium was also completed and opened at the beginning of 2023.
In the opening ceremony, the head of the Afghanistan Football Federation, the head of the Herat Province Football Federation, the coach of the Afghanistan national football team and thousands people participated. At the end, the Afghanistan national football team met with the Etihadia Sarafan team in a friendly match, and finally the Afghanistan national football team managed to defeat Etihadia Sarafan with a score of 2:1.
Now Herat Premier League is held regularly in this stadium.
