Description

Goharshad Begum is the daughter of Amir Ghiyasuddin Tarkhan (one of the princes of Timurid era) and she was the wife of Sultan Shahrukh of Timurid. She was a lady of literature and art and one of the politicians of the Timurid period. At the same time, they were strong and brave, benevolent, wise and artistic.

Under his support, the Dari language and literature grew in the Timurid court, and under the support of his wife, Sultan Shahrukh, they created a kind of cultural and artistic transformation in the court. Attention to literature, art and artists increased significantly during his period. Among the artists of this period, we can mention Abdulrahman Jami, a famous artist, and Mehri Haravi, a famous female poet who was also his companion and servant.

Goharshad Begum left behind many works and buildings, including the Jame Mosque, Madrasah and Khanqah in Herat city and a mosque next to the shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him).
